How do I enable the Honeycomb Compatibility branch?
Does the Compatibility branch guarantee a fix?
What is the Compatibility branch?
The Compatibility branch is an official Steam version intended to give players with persistent crashes or older or unsupported configurations a better chance of running Honeycomb. Frozen Way does not guarantee an optimal playing experience.
How to enable it in Steam
- Open your Steam Library.
- Find Honeycomb: The World Beyond.
- Right-click the game and choose Properties.
- Open Game Versions & Betas.
- Under Beta Participation, select compatibility.
- Close the window and wait for Steam to download the files.
- Launch the game after the download completes.
These steps come from the official Hotfix #2 announcement.
What problems is it intended to address?
The official announcement names persistent crashes and older or unsupported configurations. The official troubleshooting discussion also mentions AVX2 support, GPU drivers, DX12, shader compilation, and Oodle decompression. A developer reply explains that this branch removes the AVX2 requirement and shader pre-compilation, removes Oodle compression, and defaults to DX11.
Those details describe the branch’s technical design. They do not prove it will solve every startup crash, stutter, low FPS, black screen, or rendering problem.
Before switching branches
Record your platform, GPU, driver version, operating system, crash point, and error text. Read the official troubleshooting guide and compare your hardware with the Steam PC requirements. Keep security software enabled and avoid unofficial patches.
If the branch changes the symptom, report the branch name and hardware details. If the symptom is unchanged, return to the official troubleshooting thread instead of assuming the save is damaged.
