Honeycomb Known Issues and Troubleshooting
Troubleshoot Honeycomb launch issues with official fixes for stuttering, graphics, crashes, and startup failures, plus clearly labeled player reports.
Start with the official troubleshooting guide
Frozen Way’s pinned Honeycomb Troubleshooting Guide was updated to apply to the full version. Use the symptom table below as a concise index, then read the original post for the exact platform context and any newer edit.
| Symptom | Version or platform | Source | Handling | Status |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Noticeable stutter during play | Full version; general PC guidance | Frozen Way troubleshooting guide | Disable autosave temporarily in gameplay settings while waiting for a permanent fix | Officially acknowledged workaround |
| Low performance with ray tracing features | PC; hardware-dependent | Frozen Way troubleshooting guide | Disable RTXDI first; avoid ray tracing on systems below the guide’s stated VRAM guidance | Official guidance |
| Ray-tracing artifacts or colorful lighting | PC; VRAM-dependent | Frozen Way troubleshooting guide | Check available VRAM and reduce ray-tracing features | Official guidance |
| Crash at the menu or during shader work | PC; Intel 13th/14th generation may be relevant | Frozen Way troubleshooting guide | Update BIOS and drivers; treat -skipshadercompilation as a last-resort developer-suggested option, not a default fix | Official guidance; hardware-specific |
| Game does not start after pressing Play | PC | Frozen Way troubleshooting guide | Check whether security software is blocking the game and install current Visual C++ and DirectX runtimes; do not disable protection | Official guidance with safety boundary |
| Crash after startup videos | PC | Frozen Way troubleshooting guide | Update drivers and the operating system, confirm the dedicated GPU is used on a laptop, and retry after shader checks | Official guidance |
| Persistent startup or rendering crash | PC | Frozen Way troubleshooting guide | -d3d11 may help in some cases, but the guide does not treat it as officially supported or guaranteed | Last resort; unsupported experience possible |
Check ordinary gameplay conditions before calling it a bug
For a pump, station, animal interaction, or resource that appears missing, first check that the object is built, the required prompt or range indicator is visible, the relevant input is present, and the behavior is not a normal refusal or status effect. The first base guide covers the water and power sequence, the animal trust guide separates wildlife behavior from confirmed feeding results, and the first-day guide covers normal early-game recovery steps.
What did Hotfix #1 change?
Frozen Way’s 2026-09-09 Hotfix #1 added a safeguard that unlocks the Blueprints screen when the Building Minion quest asks the player to pin a blueprint. It also added quest safety checks, slowed carried-inventory degradation by about half, adjusted dialogue priority and distance-based volume, and fixed a potential crafting-requirements crash involving deleted storage. (Official Hotfix #1 announcement)
These are official patch notes, not a guarantee that every similar symptom is fixed. Check the patch notes page for the version record, then reproduce any remaining issue on the current build before reporting it.
What did Hotfix #2 and Hotfix #3 change?
Hotfix #2 introduced the official Compatibility Steam branch for persistent crashes or older and unsupported configurations. It also fixed several controls, map and interface issues.
Hotfix #3 fixed potential crashes when closing a game-pausing popup, inspecting a plant outside a growpod, and loading crafting-station sounds. It also changed animal navigation and fixed the Zhalo pointer. These entries are Official fix records, but they do not prove that every similar crash or wildlife issue is resolved on every platform.
The patch notes page contains the dated Hotfix #1–#3 breakdown. For a branch-specific decision, record your hardware and symptom first; do not switch branches or change files blindly.
Player reports that still need confirmation
The following topics are useful investigation leads, not confirmed causes or fixes:
| Player report | Current status | Evidence lead |
|---|---|---|
| Strider Snack placement | Player question; exact placement action not confirmed | Steam discussion |
| Habitat connection and second-floor snapping | Player question; no universal solution confirmed | Steam discussion |
| Inventory disappeared | Player report; cause and recovery not confirmed | Steam discussion |
| Map UI appears broken | Player report; scope and version need reproduction details | Steam discussion |
| Invisible fruit | Player report; not enough evidence to call it a rendering or gameplay bug | Steam discussion |
Do not delete a save, download an unknown patch, or turn off system security as a generic response. Capture the platform, game version, reproduction steps, location, screenshots, and logs when available, then use Frozen Way’s official bug-report thread.
